When I think of precious gems and precious metals, I often think about how we're just living on an ancient rock floating in the cosmos. More specifically, how one massive explosion of stardust (out of nowhere?!) has created a place where things like diamonds and platinum exist. Right here. On earth. And apparently on the moon, but that's another discussion entirely. So I know I need to brush up on my astronomy a bit, but I am an expert on one thing, and that's what pieces of antique jewelry are worthy of love. This ring is what we call in the scientific community: Exhibit A. With a lightly warm old mine cut diamond set with sapphires in cool platinum, this is a stunning example of creative craftsmanship of the era.
